Chinese-made electric tricycles have become essential working tools for local people in Cape Verde, an island country off West Africa. Many small business owners use them to carry seafood, vegetables and daily goods between markets and ports.
Compared with fuel-powered vehicles, electric tricycles have much lower running costs and are easier to repair. One single vehicle can carry goods, transport passengers or even work as a mobile street stall.
Fengxian in Jiangsu, China’s top electric tricycle manufacturing hub, saw its exports reach 390 million yuan in the first five months of 2026, a year-on-year jump of 99.3%. Local firms keep customizing products to fit African road conditions.
